Good Hair Oil for Dandruff | LIVESTRONG.COM

Good Hair Oil for Dandruff | LIVESTRONG.COM: "Infuse your scalp with good health while relying on natural treatments to clear up dandruff. Using oil to treat dandruff -- which is often accompanied by increased oil production of the scalp -- may seem counterintuitive, but the right kind of oil can go a long way in keeping pesky flakes at bay. Treat an itchy, flaky scalp with a few selected varieties to halt the overproduction of scalp oil and soothe irritation.

Coconut Oil
The fatty acids in coconut oil have antiviral and antibacterial properties that cleanse and treat the scalp, while infusing it with nourishing moisture. Apply 1 to 2 tablespoons to your scalp, massaging it into your whole head and concentrating on problem spots. Let the oil soak into your scalp for at least 15 minutes before shampooing.

Essential Oils
With its antiseptic power, tea-tree oil kills bacteria and yeast that can accumulate on your scalp and cause dandruff. Massage five to 10 drops of the oil into your scalp and let it sit for a minute or two before shampooing. Alternatively, add 10 to 20 drops of it to your favorite shampoo and use it daily to treat your scalp. Other essential oils that are reputed to treat dandruff include patchouli, rosemary, sage, ylang-ylang, peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus and juniper."
